A Beginner's Guide to Consigning: How to Make the Most of Your Pre-Loved Kids' Clothes

A Beginner's Guide to Consigning: How to Make the Most of Your Pre-Loved Kids' Clothes

Is consignment worth it? For many parents, consigning their children's clothes is a smart and sustainable way to clear out closets and earn cash. If you're new to the process, this guide is for you. We'll walk you through how to consign with us and share some tips to ensure you get the most value for your items.

Consignment is a simple concept: you bring us your gently used items, we sell them for you, and you get a percentage of the sale. It's a win-win that promotes a more sustainable kids' clothing cycle.

The best part? There is no cost to consign with us! 🚫 💵

1. The Value of Consignment: Is It Worth It? 💰 ♻️

It really adds up! When your items sell, you get paid 40-60% of the final sale price, depending on your consignor tier. You don't have to worry about finding buyers, taking photos, or shipping. We do the work, and you get paid after the items sell. Also, you assist fighting fast fashion and allow your loved items to have another go at life!

2. Timing Is Everything: Consigning Off-Season Items ⏰

We understand the urge to clear out all those past-season clothes at once, but holding on to some items for a few months can make a big difference in what you earn.

We accept non-seasonal items because we know that families travel to places with opposite seasons, or expectant mothers are often shopping ahead for their due date. However, these items often sit longer on our racks and are more likely to go on a deeper sale before they sell.

To get the best value, consider vacuum-sealing your fall and winter items and bringing them in 4–6 months from now. That way, they'll hit the floor when the season is right, increasing the chance of a quicker sale at a better price.

3. Quality Counts: A Quick Check-in on Your Items ✅

We take pride in offering high-quality, brand-name clothing, and we know our customers appreciate the standard we maintain. To ensure your items are accepted and priced well, a quick check before you drop them off goes a long way.

  • Double-Check for Stains: Sometimes, stains reappear on baby clothes after they’ve been in storage. Take a moment to run a quick inspection and, if needed, run them through the wash one last time.

  • Presentation Matters: First impressions are everything! We don't have the capacity to iron or steam items, so how they look when you bring them in is how they'll be displayed. Clothes that are free of wrinkles and ready to wear often sell faster and for a better price. You'll get more for your items when they are presented well.

  • Know Our Standards: Please check our "Acceptable Brands and Items" page for a full list of what we can take. When we have limited space for certain sizes, we may need to be a bit pickier about brands and the condition of the items we accept.

4. Donations Are Always Welcome 👖👕🧢🩳

If we can't accept an item due to its condition or brand, please know that we still welcome donations. All proceeds from these items go directly to the Priceless House Foundation. It's a great way to support a worthy cause and give your items new life, even if they aren't eligible for consignment.

Thank you for being such a valued part of our community. We look forward to seeing you and your items soon!
